Research Facilities on the Anschutz Medical Campus

Located on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado, Children's Hospital Colorado is the epicenter of pediatric healthcare in the Rocky Mountain region. Children's Colorado sits in the first university-affiliated bio-park west of the Mississippi River, including two adult hospitals and the University of Colorado's medical, dental, nursing and pharmacy schools.

Collaboration and innovation in research

The Anschutz Medical Campus is divided into three zones that promote collaboration and innovation: an education zone with facilities for training future doctors and other health care professionals, a research zone and a clinical-care zone with the University of Colorado Hospital and Children's Colorado. The campus atmosphere fosters unique collaboration in medical research, combining clinical care and research to take medicine to new levels.

On the Anschutz Medical Campus, over one million square feet of adult and pediatric research space creates one of the largest healthcare research complexes in the world. The Colorado Bioscience Park Aurora, located to the north of the Anschutz campus, provides opportunities for early-stage and start-up research-oriented biotechnology. The Park's location, adjacent to one of the largest academic medical centers in the western United States, facilitates the use of emerging science to pioneer discoveries benefiting global healthcare.

Our 1.4 million square-foot hospital, the expansion of a national and international staff of expert clinicians and researchers, and our affiliation with the University of Colorado School of Medicine promise that Children's Colorado will continue to pioneer some of the newest treatments, latest preventions and most promising cures.

About our research complexes

Research Complex 1 (RC1) is a 622,000 square-foot facility comprised of two buildings (a 12-story and a 9-story tower). RCI contains 241 laboratory modules, a bridge link between the buildings, an auditorium, teaching space and offices.

The 20 core laboratories within RC1 include mass spectrometry, X-ray crystallography, electron microscopy, a 900 mega-hertz nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer, DNA array and peptide protein chemistry.

Education areas located on the first floor of the north building provide easy access for students and faculty, with multimedia technology for broadcasting between auditoriums or out to the research community. Two auditoriums, a 200-seat research auditorium and a 100-seat education auditorium, are used daily for classes and lectures. Research Complex 2, located to the west of RC1, contains an additional 500,000 square feet of research space.
