As every parent knows, children can experience health problems at any time: evenings, weekends, when you’re traveling, or when your doctor’s office is closed.

Children’s Hospital Colorado created the ChildrensMD mobile application for times like these. Available for download on Apple and Android phones and tablets, the app provides easy access to our pediatric symptom checker, care guides, medication dosage charts and more to help you make smart decisions about your child’s care. Use these tools to determine if you need to take your kid to urgent care or the emergency room and find tips on how to relieve symptoms of minor illnesses and injuries that you can manage at home.

ChildrensMD is informed by clinical knowledge used by pediatricians and nurses in 10,000 practices and 400 nurse advice call centers in the U.S. and Canada. These protocols have been tested for 15 years on more than 150 million symptom calls. With the ChildrensMD app, you can access trusted pediatric advice at the touch of a finger.

How to use the ChildrensMD mobile app

When you first download the app, you’ll be guided through a quick introduction of its features. Select one of the tiles to find more information — from searching symptoms and care advice to finding nearby Children’s Colorado locations and referencing medication dosage charts.

Symptom checker and care guides

Use our symptom checker to learn more about your child’s symptoms, get recommendations about if and where to seek care and receive expert guidance on how to make your child comfortable at home.

To use this feature:

• Input the age and sex of your child.
• Search for the appropriate symptom by selecting a body area, entering a search word or viewing an alphabetical list.
• Select a symptom and read the description to see if it matches your child’s symptoms. If not, there are quick links to related searches.
• When you find a symptom that matches your child's illness or injury, choose “Yes, find out what to do” to read what step to take next. Advice and next steps may include "Call 911," "Call your child's doctor now," "Call your child's doctor within 24 hours" or "Manage at home."
• The app can also direct you to Children’s Colorado’s urgent care and emergency room locations and nearby ERs, or prompt you to call 911.
• Select “See care advice” to find ways to relieve your child’s symptoms at home.

Additional features in the ChildrensMD app

• Pediatric dosage tables by weight for common over-the-counter medications
• Visual images to help you identify symptoms (e.g. rashes), injuries and common causes of bites and stings
• First-aid illustrations to help you act immediately, if needed
• A medication and allergy list that allows you to track important information about your family member's prescriptions and/or over-the-counter medications
• Connect directly with MyChart, search for a Children’s Colorado doctor and schedule an appointment
