Beginning Monday, February 6, 2017, Children’s Hospital Colorado will destroy inactive medical records (kept on Microfiche and Microfilm) with visit dates from 01/01/1939 through 12/31/1979.
The destruction pertains to all previous and current Children’s Hospital Colorado locations and clinics for patients 37 years of age and older, and its being done in accordance with Colorado Statue 2 CCR 502-1 Sect. 21.170.01 (v) Inpatients (c) Outpatients which states, “For outpatient agencies, records for adults shall be retained for seven years from the date of discharge from agency and for those who are under eighteen years of age when admitted to the agency, the records shall be retained until the individual is 25 years old. For inpatient agencies, individual records shall be retained for ten years from the date of discharge from the agency; for individuals under 18 years of age when admitted to the agency, records must be retained until the individual is 28 years old.” (2 CCR 5021-1 Sect. 21.170.01 v, c.).
