Positive impacts across the globe

Children’s Hospital Colorado is working together with the Colorado School of Public Health and the University of Colorado School of Medicine/Department of Pediatrics to improve the lives of children and families worldwide. By combining our resources within the Center for Global Health, we are able to make greater impacts.

Children’s Colorado funds global health programs and activities of the Center’s World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center for Promoting Family and Child Health. This is one of only two WHO maternal and child health collaborating Centers in the Americas.

“By working collaboratively, we are all addressing the need for sustainable economic development in the poorest areas of the world in ways that will provide opportunities for families to improve their economic conditions, provide educational opportunities to their children, and reduce excessive maternal and child mortality."
Stephen Berman, MD, the late director of the Center for Global Health

Global health programs we support

Children’s Colorado supports the following global health programs:

Helping Babies Breathe®
Helping Babies Breathe is a program that trains birth attendants to use a few simple tools and techniques to assess a newborn’s breathing in the first “golden minute” of life. This helps determine if the baby is breathing well in order to reduce deaths.

Vaccine Program
Vaccines prevent an estimated 2.5 million deaths among children younger than age 5 every year. The Vaccine Program has a focus on research, delivery and safety monitoring systems, and vaccine-related education around the world.

Pediatrics in Disasters
Although a quarter of the world’s population is under the age of 5, half of the victims of man-made and natural disasters are children. The Pediatrics in Disasters Program trains healthcare providers to better prepare for events and prioritize the care of vulnerable children.

Trifinio Center for Human Development
The Trifinio Center is made up of a family medical clinic, dental clinic, soon-to-be-opened birthing clinic and community home visiting program. These services provide care to children and families living in an impoverished region located southwest of Guatemala.

Pediatric Surgery Mission Trip: Guatemala City
Children’s Colorado and the Center for Global Health send surgical teams to the Moore Pediatric Surgery Center in Guatemala City to help some of Guatemala’s most needy children.
