Digestive Health Institute physicians provide consultation to community physicians for many common GI problems of childhood, such as recurrent abdominal pain, chronic diarrhea, vomiting and constipation, and for complex and rare disorders. They work closely and communicate with primary care providers to provide a timely evaluation and diagnosis and initiate the appropriate treatment plan.

Two-year-old Ella swallowed powerful magnets and was taken to Children's Colorado for immediate care. Dr. Robert Kramer, co-medical director of the Digestive Health Institute performed a specialized endoscopy to retrieve the magnets and prevent major surgery.

Previous studies have shown that celiac disease affects approximately 1% of the American population. A team of researchers, led by Edwin Liu, MD, director for the Colorado Center for Celiac Disease, recently found that children in the Denver metro area actually exhibit celiac disease in up to 3% of the population, which is the highest prevalence determined to date in the U.S.
