The Children's Hospital Colorado Breathing Institute's mission is to provide comprehensive clinical care and consultation for children with common and complex breathing problems.

As a regional care center, our Breathing Institute provides professional education and advancement of knowledge through research. Our doctors are responsible for discoveries in pulmonary medicine including the first use of inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) to treat a premature infant with respiratory failure.

Areas of nationally recognized expertise include asthma, cystic fibrosis, airway anomalies and disease, pulmonary hypertension, apnea and sleep-disordered breathing, primary ciliary dyskinesia and children's interstitial lung disease. Children's Colorado has the depth and breadth of experience to treat the broad spectrum of all breathing conditions in children. Read more about all the pulmonary conditions we treat.

The latest in diagnostic testing is available for both infants and older children, and an experienced staff of pediatric specialists including physicians, nurses, dietitians, social workers and respiratory therapists allows families to benefit from the team approach to treating breathing disorders. Our collaborative approach to asthma, breathing and lung care incorporates and facilitates family involvement.

Asthma, breathing and lung programs

Why choose Children's Colorado for asthma, breathing and lung care?

Our specialists are on the forefront of evaluating new methods of asthma testing and new medications for breathing treatment. Our researchers work to understand the conditions in pediatric cases, and then seek new ways to safely regulate those responses.

Clinical care
In our clinics, we believe a multidisciplinary approach to asthma, breathing and lung condition management is the best way to improve quality of life for our young patients. In addition to Children's Colorado's emergency and inpatient services, being housed with a variety of pediatric subspecialists contributes significantly to our ability to provide a full-spectrum of care.

Team approach
Extensive diagnostic testing is available for both infants and older children, and an experienced staff of doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, dietitians, social workers, and child life therapists allows families to benefit from the team approach to the evaluation and management of patients with asthma, breathing and lung conditions. Our collaborative approach also incorporates and facilitates family involvement and involves close collaboration with the primary healthcare provider.
