2021 Reflections in Pediatric Care (S5:E17)

If the pandemic has taught us nothing else, it is that we humans are a hopeful people. Most of us entered 2021 with high hopes that the New Year would make the COVID-19 pandemic a distant memory. We kicked off the year vaccinating healthcare workers and had great promise for living in a post-pandemic world, personally and professionally. But as we come to the end of this year, many of us might even consider 2021 even more challenging than 2020.

Listen to pediatric experts reflect on the last year of pediatric care.

In this episode, Mike DiStefano, MD, joins us for a reflection on the last year of pediatric care and how this shared experience has shaped pediatric providers.

Dr. DiStefano is the Chief Medical Officer of our Southern Colorado region of care. He is a practicing emergency medicine physician and is Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

In this episode, our experts discuss:

  • The early start of respiratory season and increase in higher acuity patients
  • Greatest challenges as leaders
  • Compassion fatigue, burnout, resiliency and the importance of self-care
  • The rise in mental health needs among children
