Effective Vaccine Communication (S6:E26)

Immunization is one of the most successful public health interventions, helping to eradicate diseases you almost forgot about, such as polio, tetanus and smallpox. However, 25 million children worldwide missed out on routine immunizations in 2021 — largely due to healthcare disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic. Perplexed by vaccine hesitancy and refusal, medical providers now face many challenges to vaccinating families.

Listen to pediatric experts discuss effective vaccine communication

Recorded live from the 2022 AAP NCE Conference in Anaheim, California, Peter Jay Hotez, MD, PhD, joins us to discuss the importance of vaccines, the science behind vaccine development and the impact of effective communications.

Dr. Hotez is the Endowed Chair of Tropical Pediatrics at Texas Children’s Hospital and is a professor at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas A&M University.

In this episode, our experts discuss:

  • Historical perspective of vaccine misinformation and hesitancy
  • The anti-vaccine movement
  • Origins, intent and politics of vaccine misinformation
