Obsessive-Compulsive and Anxiety Disorders Outpatient Program

About the OCD/Anxiety Outpatient Program

The Obsessive-Compulsive and Anxiety Disorders Program serves children aged 5 to 17 years old, along with their families. We diagnose and treat kids and teens with a full range of anxiety disorders, including but not limited to panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), social phobia, specific phobia and generalized anxiety disorder.

About anxiety disorders

  • Children with anxiety are likely to experience excessive worrying, accompanied by physical arousal that can manifest as restlessness, jitteriness or insomnia.
  • Some examples of presenting complaints include obsessions about contamination or safety, or anxiousness about separation from parents, attending school or social interaction.
  • It is not uncommon for children to have two or more anxiety disorders, as well as other co-morbid conditions that might include tics or mood and disruptive behavior disorders.
  • Children who are anxious are likely to exhibit tantrums, especially when pressured to face anxiety-provoking situations.
  • Anxiety disorders run in families, and children with anxiety are likely to have siblings or parents who also suffer from excessive anxiety.
  • Anxiety can be treated with cognitive behavioral therapy alone, or in combination with medication.
