New Graduate Nurse Residency Program

Please include the following in your cover letter:

• Address your cover letter to the New Graduate Nurse Residency Program.
• Describe why you have chosen to apply to the Children’s Hospital Colorado Nurse Residency Program, including your passion for working with the pediatric population.
• Describe how your clinical rotations or professional work experiences have helped prepare you to succeed as a nurse at Children’s Hospital Colorado.
• Identify the top two preference units you would like to apply for and describe what attributes you possess that would be an add to each unit’s team. The units hiring new graduate nurses vary for each cohort. When the application period is open, the job posting links will include a list of what units are currently hiring.

Please include the following in your resume:

• Relevant clinical rotations, clinical practicum, nurse extern/intern experiences, including:
• The hospital and department in which hours were completed
• Total number of hours for each experience
• Additional degrees in fields other than nursing
• Work experience with children (day care, camp counselor, sport coach, nanny, etc.)
• Professional work experience in a healthcare setting
• Leadership roles within healthcare settings or professional organizations
• Membership in professional nursing organizations (SNA, Sigma Theta Tau, SPN, etc.)
• Fluency in languages other than English
• Volunteer experience or community work in which you have participated
• Grade point average (GPA)
• Extracurricular activities

Important reminders:

• If you are applying to both the Anschutz campus and the Colorado Springs campus, you will need to apply to both New Graduate RN job openings.
• References are not required at the time you submit your application. Electronic online references will be requested if you are selected for an interview.
• You must submit your completed application online by the deadline to be considered.

Occasionally and with committee approval, we will consider an exemption from applicants who have graduated from an accredited BSN program outside of the 12-month timeframe and who possess less than 12 months of RN experience. Exemption criteria examples include military deployments, personal or family commitments.

• Download and complete the Exemption Supplemental Application form.
• Save the document as "First Name Last Name Supplemental."
• Submit the completed form, along with your cover letter and resume, to NurseResidencyProgram@childrenscolorado.org
• In addition, please apply online to the appropriate Clinical Nurse New Grad position in our online database.

This is a full-time position that requires 72 to 80 hours per two-week pay period for the full 52 weeks, including weekends and some holidays. The number of hours per week changes to accommodate both didactic and clinical time.

Our nurse residents are full-time team members. Thus, the schedule includes nights or day/night rotating, weekends and holidays. Unit nurse managers and nurse educators collaborate to develop a schedule that best meets each resident's learning needs during the program. Generally, the nurse resident's schedule will be the same as their assigned staff nurse preceptor’s schedule.

Residents receive the same vacation, paid holidays and sick leave allowance as all other nurses.

The hourly rate for our nurse residents is $34.50. This position is also eligible for shift differentials. Your hiring manager will provide you with more information on your total rewards package upon hire.
