The volunteers at Children’s Hospital Colorado come in all shapes and sizes. Everyone has their own, unique motivation, and their own reason for working to improve the lives of children. Some have had their children treated here. Some were actually treated here as children. And others just like having their belly scratched. Our diverse group of volunteers has one thing in common, however: the desire to help sick children and their families.
At Children's Colorado, we’re fortunate to have thousands of dedicated volunteers who work regularly, from several hours a year to several hours a week,to help make the hospital experience a little less stressful for kids. And to ensure your volunteer experience is a great one, we help find the perfect role for each volunteer based on hospital need and your individual strengths and passions.
Volunteers are present at key points in each patient’s stay. They are the ones greeting and orienting newly-admitted families. They plan and host many of the extracurricular events that allow patients to get crafty, creative and forget, if only briefly, why they are at Children’s Colorado. Other volunteers work behind the scenes providing administrative support and helping our hospital run more smoothly. There are also opportunities to volunteer at La Cache, a volunteer-run antique shop that benefits Children's Colorado.
To help make the hospital stay a little easier, we created a special Welcome Program for patients and families. Specially trained volunteers serve as Welcome Program coordinators who greet newly admitted patient families upon their arrival and introduce them to the hospital's many amenities. The goal is to provide a warm and welcoming environment and to answer any non-medical questions about a child’s stay.
Chapter volunteers function both as volunteers in the hospital, as well as community-based volunteers. Learn more about becoming a chapter volunteer.
